After spending this weekend with 2 out of 3 of my April East Coast USA road tripping comrades, I realised something. Catchy, singalong songs are not just a fun addition to a playlist. They’re a necessity.
Any hint of a tune can and will be repeated by us at varying skill levels and volumes. We went to see Wonder.Land, the musical, on Saturday Night, and have been repeating the same one line (WWW.WONDER.LAND) for hours.
I think this is true for most travels. We need something to keep moral up on those seemingly endless stretches of highway, and music is the way forward.
So, today I’m going to flashback to two songs that bring back amazing memories and that I know my group of explorers are not be able to resist belting out at the top of their lungs. Potentially repetitively, for days on end.
American Boy – Estelle (Feat. Kanye West)
Absolute tune. I hadn’t heard it in a while, but I’m pleased to say I remember 99 percent of the words. It’s super catchy, and pleasing to sing along to:
Love On Top – Beyonce
I don’t think I will ever forget us screeching this out at the top of our cat like lungs (I mean, try singing along to it. It’s got to be sung like that), whilst stuck behind the slowest driver ever on the road down to Geirangersfjord, Norway. It was a sure fire way to distract us from the growing frustrations felt by just how terrible the driver ahead of us was. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to have it in the car to help us out should this occur again.
