#ThrowbackThursday – USA Edition

I can’t quite believe it’s over 2 and a half years since Abi and myself set off to the US of A on a month-long East Coast to West Coast road trip. A lot has happened and changed in those 2+ years, but two things remain constant; our wanderlust and our love for America.

After road trips through Norway, Italy, Scotland, it only seemed fitting that we return to do another road trip in the States. Sadly, this one won’t be as long as last time, neither in time nor miles; in 2013, we visited/drove through 18 states, this time it will be only 5. But one thing I am so happy about is that we get to plan all of it ourselves. Last time, we used the great people of Trek America as we really had no idea what we were doing and whilst I would 100% recommend TA for a first-time traveller to the States, I am so glad that this time we are in charge of route, accommodation, schedule, etc.

I’m looking forward to so many aspects of this upcoming trip, and before I ramble on about where we are going and what we are doing, below are my Top 5 things that I am excited for…

  1. Flying Solo.
I have done a short haul flight alone before, Menorca to London.  It was only about 3 hours and it was a return flight from a holiday with my Aunt and Uncle, but I have never done a long haul flight by myself. (The other 3 are flying on the Friday, but due to work commitments, I can’t leave until the Saturday). I’m not the most confident of flyers, but I am so excited for this new experience and new milestone, just to prove to myself and to my traveling anxiety that I can do it.
  2. Chicago.
My final destination on the trip is Chicago, somewhere I have wanted to visit for a very long time. When I was younger, I used to think I would meet my future husband in Chicago. So who knows, romance could be in the air… or just a lot of pizza. Either would suit me fine. I am very excited to go to the Planetarium in Chicago; partly because I am fascinated by anything to do with space, but also the view of the Chicago skyline. Google it!
  3. National Parks.
We were lucky enough to visit a fair few NPs on our last trip to the USA, and this time we are planning to visit 2 more! First up is Shenandoah National Park and then Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Whilst I love cities, spending a few days exploring and hiking the various trails on offer will be a lot of fun and I’m excited to see some new beautiful scenery!
  4. Abi’s Travel Playlist.
We are going to be spending a fair few hours in the car, so I could not be happier that Abi is one of my travel companions, ‘cos the girl makes playlists like a pro. If you want a diverse mix of amazing tunes, take a road trip with Abi.  You’ll be singing along to everything from Billy Joel to *NSync to Kacey Musgraves and having an absolutely amazing time.
  5. The People.
I adore the American people. On our trip in 2013, we met so many lovely, genuine people, who could not do enough to welcome us to their beautiful towns and cities. One of my favourite things about travel is the people you meet along the way and the stories they bring with them, and I am excited for those that will play a big part in our upcoming adventure.

I’m continuing to post photos from my recent trip to New York on my Instagram, so check that out here!

And if you have any recommendations for our upcoming trip, please do comment below or on here!

Thank you for reading and happy travels,

Nai xo
